MEDTRM100 – Medical Terminology (15 lessons – 60 hours) $975
Program Goal: Students will learn the fundamentals of medical terminology by use a major medical terminology textbook and accompanied by exercises, quizzes, and tests on a lesson-by-lesson basis. All books and materials are included in the enrollment form price. See the book list for details.

MEDANA200 – Human Anatomy (15 lessons – 60 hours) $975
Program Goal: Students will learn the fundamentals of human anatomy and physiology by use of a university-level textbook and study guide and by completing print-based exercises, quizzes, and tests on a lesson-by-lesson basis. MEDSEC300 – Medical Secretary/Receptionist (18 Lessons – 72 hours) (NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE)
Program Goal: Students will learn the fundamentals of medical clinic or hospital in an entry-level position. This program has a medical terminology base with an introduction to medical transcription, coding, billing, and clerical duties with testing the students will have to show proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and the Internet and e-mail. In class students will do exercises, quizzes, and tests on a lesson-by-lesson basis. All books and materials are included in the enrollment form price. See the book list for details.

MEDBILLCOD400 – Medical Billing/Coding (15 lessons – 60 hours) $1295
Program Goal: Students will learn the fundamentals of inpatient, outpatient, and physician coding by use of several industry-recognized textbooks and study guides. Students will complete print-based exercises, quizzes, and tests on a lesson-by-lesson basis. All necessary textbooks are included in the enrollment form price. See the book list for details.
Prerequisite: High school diploma, GED, or have reached 18 years of age. Career Academy’s Medical Terminology program (MEDTRM100) or equivalent knowledge is required.
MEDTRN500 – Medical Transcription (15 lessons – 60 hours) $975
Program Goal: Students will learn the fundamentals of medical transcription by use of an industry-recognized textbook, other industry reference books, and six hours of authentic physician dictation. Students will complete dictation and print-based exercises on a lesson-by-lesson basis. All textbooks are included in the enrollment form price. See the book list for details.
Prerequisite: High school diploma, GED, or have reached 18 years of age. Career Academy’s Medical Terminology program (MEDTRM100) or equivalent knowledge is required.
MEDINTERN – Medical
Information Internship (60 hours)
Internship Goal:
Students will learn on-the-job skills by completing a 60-hour unpaid
internship in a health care information setting of their choice.
Students will be supervised by a Career Academy of Marquette
instructor and by a designated supervisor at the worksite.
Student supervision and goals will be carefully outlined in a
written internship agreement developed by the student, the CBS
supervisor, and the worksite supervisor.
Students will complete a daily log of activities while at the
worksite and prepare a 500-word written report about their work
experience to successfully complete the internship.
Prerequisite:
Students must complete Medical Terminology (MTRM100) plus one or
more Medical/Clerical Program(s) of their choice to qualify for
internship consideration.
Program Goal: This program will help students
prepare for the American Health Information Management Association’s
Certified Coding Associate examination.
Students will learn about the AHIMA candidate handbook; regulatory
agencies and organizations; healthcare delivery systems;
technology in health information; the patient record – source of health
data and information; health information infrastructure and system;
health data concepts; electronic health record systems;
classification systems, clinical vocabularies, and terminology; data
access and retention; health care informatics; technology, applications,
and security; information systems life cycle and project management;
privacy and health law; revenue cycle and financial management.
Prerequisite: Career Academy of Marquette Medical Terminology Program and Medical Billing/Coding Program or equivalent knowledge or experience.
Program Goal: This program will help students prepare for the American Health Information Management Association’s Certified Coding Specialist - Physician examination.
Students will learn about the AHIMA candidate handbook; in-depth knowledge of the CPT coding system; in-depth knowledge of the ICD-9-CM coding systems; familiarity with the HCPCS Level II coding system; Official ICD-9-CM Guidelines for Coding and Reporting; Coding Clinic for ICD-9-CM (official coding advice from AHA); CPT Assistant (official coding advice from AMA); professional journal articles (AHIMA)

Prerequisite: Career Academy of Marquette Medical Terminology Program and Medical Billing/Coding Program or equivalent knowledge or experience.
This program will help prepare students for The Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) Registered Medical Transcriptionist (RMT) certification examination. The RMT exam was developed to assure consumers and employers that successful candidates are qualified to practice medical transcription.
Students will learn basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, disease processes, signs and symptoms, medications, and laboratory values; knowledge of specialty (or specialties) as appropriate; knowledge of medical transcription guidelines and practices; proven skills in English usage, grammar, punctuation, style, and editing; ability to use designated professional reference materials; ability to operate word processing equipment, dictation and transcription equipment, and other equipment as specified; ability to work under pressure with time constraints; ability to concentrate; excellent listening skills; excellent eye, hand, and auditory coordination; ability to understand and apply relevant legal concepts (e.g., confidentiality).
